Morehouse Force Calibration Service

Proving Rings, Load Cells, Force Gauges, Traction Dynamometers, Etc.

force calibration services     Most Government, military, and industrial specifications, together with good judgment, dictate that force measuring and force calibration instruments be calibrated at certain specified intervals of time.  According to American Society For Testing and Materials Mechanical Force-Measuring Instruments- Instruments such as Proving Rings, Load Cells, Force Gauges, Traction Dynamometers, rings or loops with dial indicators, etc, shall be calibrated at intervals not exceeding 2 years.  (Further information is available @ www.astm.org)  These intervals of time will vary from daily calibration for an instrument that is used for a precise force calibration to control a costly testing or batching procedure, to 1 to 2 years for an instrument having a history of ruggedness and calibration retention capabilities that is used two to three times a month.

Since 1920, Morehouse Instrument Company has designed, manufactured, and sold Proving Rings and other types of force calibrating instruments and machines.  However, since it is not economically feasible for many facilities to purchase their own force calibration standards because of infrequent calibration requirements, Morehouse offers complete force calibration services in our fully equipped force standards laboratory

FORCE CALIBRATION CAPABILITIES

Our force standards laboratory has facilities for calibrating from 0.1 LBF through 1,000,000 LBF, or its equivalent in Kilograms force or Newtons in either tension or compression under controlled conditions  featuring Deadweight Calibrations up to 120,000 LBF with weights directly calibrated by N.I.S.T..  The calibration of all of our equipment is traceable to the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology.  All force standards used by Morehouse comply with ASTM specification E 74 and iso guide 17025

 CALIBRATION PROCEDURES

Unless otherwise requested, Proving Rings and other instruments that are used to calibrate testing machines and load cells are calibrated in strict accordance with ASTM specifications E74.  This is the same specification that the United States National Institute of Standards & Technology now uses for force calibrations.  Force gauges, traction dynamometers, and other similar force measuring and weighing devices are calibrated at 10 points throughout their range.  Unless requested otherwise, the standard 10 loads are applied in increments equal to 10% of the devices capacity beginning at 10% of capacity.  Additional loads may be calibrated as desired at an additional price per load, or any other 10 loads will be calibrated at no extra charge in lieu of the standard 10 loads.  Special calibration procedures can be performed in accordance with special requests and requirements.

CERTIFICATE OF CALIBRATION

A certificate of Calibration is issued for all instruments calibrated.  The certificate not only shows tractability to the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology, but also the accuracy or uncertainty of the instrument.  Proving Rings and other instruments that are calibrated according to and meet ASTM E74 specifications are provided with a certificate accordingly and a computer printout showing a load in the appropriate unit of force for each micrometer division.
